Do Not Ever Use This Quote With This Picture.

“Don’t Go Broke Trying To Look Rich.”

Whether I agree or disagree with the quote, it’s true to some extent. However, it should not be placed with Steve Jobs. Not because that “he’s actually rich”, But because I have the answer on why this “quote with picture” is terribly wrong. Here is why:

The quote and Steve Jobs 1998–2010
  1. He used that shirt for branding purposes.

He’s a frontman. He’s selling his brand like some tech guru or motivational coach. I remember a friend of mine watching him selling iPod like today generation watch TED Talk, and it doesn’t mean bad. What’s worse is people didn’t realize the true purposes behind the black turtleneck.

He trademarks that turtleneck to be his style. Just like Simon Cowell used black V necks every time he appeared as a judge. Because he realizes, the previous tech guy (Bill Gates) is already a white male wearing glasses. If he doesn’t use the same shirt every time he appeared, people would not remember him.

(At this point I guess the case with Mark Zuckerberg, he doesn’t want people to recognize him, so he doesn’t have any certain style)

2. When the brand stop produces that shirt…

That turtleneck is Issey Miyake’s. Steve Job’s own 100 of it and is priced over $250 per piece. One user even tweeted that when it’s factory closed, Steve Jobs pay a good amount of money so it can be open and reproduce again.

3. Lastly, have you heard quotes: “fake it ‘till you make it?”

On this last point, I just wanna remind you that you don’t need to take a quote seriously (like I did). In this case, a saleswoman/salesman should dress to impress, and I haven’t even talked about the fashion industry yet. Despite you agree or disagree with both quotes, you do you. Sometimes you will feel like something was missing and you fill it with some quotes you resonate with, but that doesn’t mean you have to live on that quote forever.
